Farm Team Member – Milker (Part-Time)
Bark River MI, 9-15 hours/week (3-5 shifts) minimum, $15 per hour, possible full time a few weeks per year to cover our vacation time.

Join the Farm Team at JFR
At Jorasz Family Ranch, everything we do starts with the care of our cows. From the grass to the glass, our team plays a key role in delivering clean and safe raw dairy to our member-owners every day.

We’re looking for a dependable, hardworking person to become part of our farm team in this hands-on milking role. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys meaningful physical work, cares about animals, and wants to be part of a team that truly takes pride in supporting the health of the herd and the quality of the milk we provide.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform routine milking of cows following established Raw Milk Institute guided procedures
  • Prepare cows for milking and monitor equipment during operation
  • Maintain strict cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • Observe animals and report any health concerns
  • Clean and sanitize milking equipment and work areas
  • Support general farm tasks as required
  • Perform basic livestock care and feeding

Growth Potential
While this role is centered on milking operations, there may be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities over time based on performance, demonstrated skills, and business needs, including herd care, feeding, and equipment operation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Someone who loves caring for animals, and is patient and gentle with them.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance (weekends required), ability to adhere to a two-week schedule required.
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Comfortable working around large animals
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
  • Prior farm or animal experience is a plus
  • Equipment experience (skid steer, etc.) is a plus, but not required

Schedule

  • Typical shift: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM EST, flexible within an hour of those times
  • Days and shifts vary based on farm needs, seven days per week
  • Weekend availability is required
  • May include morning shifts or split shifts, morning shifts are typically 5:00 AM- 8:00 AM EST
  • Typically 3-5 shifts per week, up to 7 split shifts/week to cover vacation time a few weeks per year. We do have an additional per-diem milker that will take some shifts during vacations.
  • Requests off are considered but not guaranteed.
  • You will be scheduled for two weeks at a time based on farm needs.

Work Environment
This is a working farm environment. You can expect:

  • Outdoor and barn work in all weather conditions
  • Exposure to livestock, mud, manure, hay, straw, feed, and uneven terrain
  • A physically active role requiring standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs is required
  • Safety is a priority on the farm. Team members are required to follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate gear.
  • Proper footwear is essential—durable, closed-toe, slip-resistant footwear suitable for wet and uneven conditions is required at all times.

Why JFR?

  • Be part of a local, family-run business with deep roots in the community
  • Play a direct role in our “Grass-to-Glass” process
  • Gain hands-on experience in a real working dairy farm
  • Our cows are Brown Swiss and are very docile, sweet, and easy to work with. They will be treated as pets by anyone that cares for them, they have names, and you’ll learn them!
